Finishing My Master's Thesis

I'm so excited to announce that yesterday I officially submitted my master's thesis to the graduate school at The University of Texas at Austin after having it signed by graduate advisors...hallelujah!

The event was very enjoyable—we all had lunch at the Texas Exes Cafe on UT campus, which  happened to be the perfect place considering I will soon be a Texas-Ex (I walk the stage May 19th).

So I know you might be thinking, "What is she going to do next?" Well, I've been wondering the same thing and already have many plans in the works. Currently, I'm Co-Director at UP Collective where I also have my art studio space, all of which keeps me delightfully busy. At UP Collective I'm working on scheduling and installing exhibitions, creating and implementing programming, revamping the website, and working our social media outlets. My studio practice has been going really well lately—I recently sold my "Drift" painting and am working on selling prints through my Etsy shop. I have several commissioned paintings lined up that I'm excited to get started on now that my thesis is finished. I am also preparing new work for an exhibition I have coming up in October and then another in November for the East Austin Studio Tour. Along with painting, I'm also doing freelance design work creating several websites for other artists.

Last weekend I was a painting juror for Art City Austin, an annual outdoor art festival in downtown Austin. I really enjoyed meeting all of the artists who participated and appreciated how gracious most of them were in sharing and talking about their work with me, despite the intimidating "JUDGE" badge I had around my neck. Jay Long, the artist I scored the highest, ended up winning best overall painter—pretty neat!
