When I first saw Alexa Meade's "paintings," they seemed like nice, painterly portraits, but did not strike me as anything out of the ordinary. Then I discovered that my eyes were being deceived, because instead of painting images of her models, she paints on her models and then photographs them to appear like paintings.
If you look closely, real details become noticeable such as hair, eyes, and intentionally unpainted hands (as seen in the portrait of the man below). I love seeing artists that take a twist on the traditional...Meade could be considered an installation artist, a painter, a photographer, as well as a three-dimensional artist.
